Privacy Policy
What we collect when you visit this site or contact the firm, why, who sees it, and how to ask us to change or delete it.
Who we are
This policy describes how Khatib Law LLC ("the firm", "we") handles personal information collected through www.khatiblaw.com and when you contact us by phone or email. The firm decides how that information is used and is responsible for it. Contact: Khatib Law LLC, 6600 W College Dr, Ste 207, Palos Heights, IL 60463; info@khatiblaw.com; (708) 722-2222.
What we collect
Contact form. The form on our contact page asks for:
- your full name, email address and phone number;
- the type of matter you are asking about, chosen from a short list;
- a message in your own words.
It also records that you checked the acknowledgment that submitting the form does not create an attorney-client relationship, and the date and time of the submission. Please do not put Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, account or card numbers, or medical details in the message; the form is for a short description only.
Phone and email. When you call or email, we keep your name, your contact details and what you tell us about your matter so that we can check for conflicts of interest and respond.
Payments. Online payments are processed by LawPay on its own pages. We receive confirmation of the payer's name, the amount, the date and the last digits of the card. We never receive or store your full card number.
Technical data. Our hosting provider and the server that handles the contact form receive your IP address and browser information with each request. We use the IP address to limit abusive or automated submissions and for security. Google Analytics 4 collects the usage data described under "Cookies" below.
Clients. Once you engage the firm, we collect what the representation requires. That information is governed by your engagement agreement, by Illinois Rule of Professional Conduct 1.6 and by the attorney-client privilege, which protect it more strictly than this policy does.
How we use it
- To respond to your inquiry and run a conflicts check before any engagement.
- To provide legal services, bill for them and maintain client files.
- To operate, secure and improve the website, including blocking spam and seeing which pages are read.
- To meet legal and professional obligations, including the record-keeping the Illinois Supreme Court's rules require of lawyers.
We do not use your information for automated decisions about you, and we do not send marketing email or text messages.
Who receives it
We share information only as needed for the purposes above:
- A third-party email-delivery service receives contact-form submissions, delivers them to the firm's email and, if you gave an email address, may send you one automatic confirmation that we received your request. It holds each message for a limited period under its own security terms.
- Our website hosting provider, and the email and practice-management software the firm uses to store correspondence and files.
- Google, through Google Analytics 4, as described below.
- The Better Business Bureau, which serves the BBB accreditation seal on our pages from its own server. When the seal loads, your browser sends BBB your IP address and our site's address, as it does for any image. The seal sets no cookies.
- LawPay (AffiniPay), our payment processor, when you choose to pay online.
- Cook County Tax Appeals LLC, our sister company, if your inquiry concerns a Cook County property tax appeal, so that it can respond.
- Professional advisers such as our accountant or insurer, under confidentiality obligations, and courts, agencies or other parties when required by law, a court order or the rules of professional conduct.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing. A vendor that receives personal information about Illinois residents from us is required by contract to maintain reasonable security measures, as the Illinois Personal Information Protection Act requires.
Cookies
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and understand which pages are read. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and collects the pages you visit, how long you stay, an approximate location derived from your IP address, your device and browser type, and the site that referred you. We do not use Google's advertising features, and we do not use the data to identify you. How Google uses this information is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
The site sets one first-party cookie of its own, kl_consent, which records only whether analytics may load on your visit. It is set for 180 days and contains no personal information. There are no advertising pixels, session-recording tools or chat widgets.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
kl_consent | Khatib Law LLC (this site) | Records whether analytics may load on your visit, based on your region and the Global Privacy Control signal | 180 days | Essential |
_ga | Google Analytics 4 | Distinguishes visitors | 2 years | Analytics |
_ga_<property id> | Google Analytics 4 | Keeps session state | 2 years | Analytics |
No cookie is used to sell or share personal information.
Analytics does not load for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, and it does not load for any visitor whose browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal. No banner is shown, because nothing optional runs for those visitors. If we add a consent prompt later, this section will say so.
Everyone else can prevent analytics collection by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, by turning on Global Privacy Control in a browser that supports it, by blocking cookies in your browser settings, or by using a content blocker. The site works the same without analytics.
Email and text messages
We do not operate a newsletter or a text-messaging program. If we start one, we will ask for your consent separately, every marketing message will include a way to unsubscribe, and we will honor unsubscribe requests within ten business days. Emails about your matter (engagement, invoices, case updates) are not marketing and will continue while you are a client. A phone number you give us on the contact form is used to call you back; we do not send marketing texts to it.
Security
We use reasonable security measures appropriate to the information we hold, as the Illinois Personal Information Protection Act (815 ILCS 530/45) requires:
- the website is served over HTTPS only;
- form submissions are checked on the server before they are delivered;
- access to client files is limited to the attorney and the staff who need it;
- vendors are bound by security terms.
No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. Email is not a secure channel for sensitive documents; once you are a client we will tell you how to send them to us.
Retention and disposal
We keep inquiry records for as long as needed to respond and to check for conflicts of interest in later matters, which the rules of professional conduct require us to be able to do. Client files are kept for the period required by the Illinois Supreme Court's rules and by your engagement agreement, and are then disposed of so that the information cannot be read or reconstructed (815 ILCS 530/40). Analytics data is kept under Google's default retention settings.
If there is a breach
If we learn that personal information covered by the Illinois Personal Information Protection Act has been acquired by an unauthorized person, we will notify affected Illinois residents in the most expedient time possible and without unreasonable delay, as 815 ILCS 530/10 requires, and will notify the Illinois Attorney General when the law requires it.
Your choices and rights
You may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to info@khatiblaw.com. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to keep information that is part of a client file, that is needed for conflicts checks, or that the law requires us to retain, and we will tell you if that applies. If you live in a state or country that gives you additional rights, such as California or the European Economic Area, tell us and we will honor the rights that apply to you.
Children
This site is for adults with legal and tax questions. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, email info@khatiblaw.com and we will delete it.
Confidentiality before and after engagement
Information you send before we have agreed in writing to represent you is handled as described in our Disclaimer: it may not be confidential beyond what the law requires, and it does not prevent the firm from representing someone else. Information from clients is protected by Illinois Rule of Professional Conduct 1.6 and the attorney-client privilege, which are stricter than anything in this policy.
Changes to this policy
We will post any change on this page and update the date shown above. Check this page again when you contact us.
